Safety is a biblical concept:
Proverbs 2:1
Wise choices will watch over you.
Understanding will keep you safe.
Proverbs 22:3 – “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”
This verse encourages us to be wise and aware of potential hazards, taking the necessary precautions to avoid danger. Being mindful of our surroundings and following safety procedures can be seen as exercising wisdom and foresight.
Philippians 2:4 – “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
This verse speaks to the importance of considering the well-being of others. In a workplace setting, ensuring the safety of others by following protocols, helping coworkers, and creating a safe environment is a reflection of this value.
Safety Information
We take your safety seriously
We have partnered with Southwest Technology Center to help us keep you safe when you are working in the community.
When working on a project, it is important to remember that you and you alone are responsible for your safety. If you do not feel safe, then back out of the situation and get some help. Stay vigilant and watch others around you. Here are some other tips.
Here is an acronym suggested by Jason Carter of SW Tech; SAFETY:
-
- S – Survey your surroundings – Look around, assess potential hazards before you begin.
- A – Always wear appropriate PPE – Protect yourself with the right gear, no exceptions!
- F – Follow instructions – Stick to the guidelines and procedures to stay safe.
- E – Electrical awareness – Identify and avoid electrical hazards; it’s everyone’s responsibility.
- T – Time to scan – 30-minute work periods, followed by a quick 30-second scan of your 30-foot area.
- Y – You are the key to safety – Take responsibility and stay engaged for a safe workplace.
- Make sure you are prepared for the task, have all of the correct tools/equipment, and wear appropriate clothing. Wearing flip flops and cut off shorts is not appropriate for using a chainsaw.
- Ask questions when there is doubt. There will be someone to guide you when you are working with Nehemiah Initiative; don’t be afraid to ask questions.

Thinking more safety…
Know your emergency procedures
Accidents will happen. Be prepared for that eventuality. Know how to contact emergency personnel.
Safety is everyone’s concern
We should all be keeping everyone safe starting with ourselves and then those around us. Do not be afraid to raise the alarm.
The ever allusive Awth (Accident waiting to happen) is hard to see but is always around and ready to take action. Take action first and stay ahead of the Awth! Look for things seen and unseen.
